Choose the correct extension route
An extension of stay is not the same as obtaining a new visa. Available extensions depend on the current entry, purpose of stay and supporting circumstances. Common reasons include retirement, marriage, family, education, employment and short-term necessity. The expiry date in the passport—not a travel booking or reporting receipt—controls when action is needed.
Documents and application timing
Financial records, school or employer papers, relationship evidence, TM30 records and bank letters may have specific timing requirements. Begin before expiry so corrections can be made. Submitting incomplete material close to the deadline can leave few alternatives if Immigration requests more evidence.
While a decision is pending
