Applications, timing and fees
What is the difference between a visa and an extension of stay?
A visa is generally used to seek entry, while an extension allows a longer stay after entry. The labels are often confused, but the travel and re-entry consequences are different.
Can a Non-Immigrant O be issued for only 90 days?
Yes, an initial Non-Immigrant permission may be shorter than a later annual extension. The next step depends on the basis of stay and whether you meet extension requirements.
Can a 90-day Non-Immigrant stay be extended for one year?
Potentially, if you qualify under a permitted basis such as retirement or family and meet the evidence rules. Approval is not automatic.
Does using an agent protect me from future immigration problems?
No. You remain responsible for the accuracy and legitimacy of the application and stamps. Use a reputable provider, retain receipts, and review your passport after every process.
Can processing continue after my previous permission date?
A timely accepted application can create a lawful pending process, but the stamp and receipt control your situation. Do not assume you are protected without written evidence from immigration.
Which visa services do you assist with?
We assist with a range of Thai visa and immigration matters, including extensions, long-stay options, family-related applications, business and work-related routes, and other common immigration services. The suitable route depends on your circumstances.
Can requirements change?
Yes. Immigration procedures, supporting documents, fees, and processing arrangements can change. We check the current position for the relevant service before advising you to proceed.
Do you guarantee approval?
No agency can guarantee approval because the final decision rests with the relevant authority. We assess each case carefully and may decline to proceed if we believe the application has a very low chance of success.
How long will my application take?
Timing varies by service, immigration office, document readiness, and government processing. After assessing your case, we can provide a practical estimate, but official processing times cannot be guaranteed.
How much will the service cost?
Fees are quoted case by case because every application is different. Contact us with your circumstances and the service required for an initial price estimate.
What if my visa or permission to stay expires soon?
Contact us immediately and provide the exact expiry date shown in your passport. Available options can become limited close to a deadline, so early advice is important.
Can an online visa tool or calculator replace checking my immigration stamp?
No. A tool can help you explore options or plan dates, but it cannot grant permission or confirm approval. Check your official admitted-until date and the requirements for your case. If a calculated date differs from your immigration record, have the discrepancy checked promptly.
Entry, TDAC and short stays
What should I check before flying to Thailand?
Confirm your passport validity, permission to enter, airline requirements, onward-travel plans and any current arrival form. Rules can change, so check again shortly before departure or contact Next Step Hua Hin for a case review.
What is the Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC)?
The Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) records arrival information; it is not a visa or an extension of stay. Use the official TDAC portal.
How can I avoid fake TDAC websites?
The official government TDAC submission is free. Use tdac.immigration.go.th and check the address before entering passport details. Paid third-party assistance is not the government fee.
Can I complete the TDAC well before my journey?
Submit within the three-day window before arrival, including your arrival date. Prepare your travel and accommodation details beforehand. Check the official TDAC instructions when your plans change.
Can immigration ask to see cash or other evidence at entry?
Yes. Officers may ask for evidence of funds, accommodation, onward travel or the purpose of the visit. The evidence needed depends on your circumstances.
Can frequent visits lead to extra questions at the border?
Yes. Repeated or lengthy tourist stays may lead to questions about your purpose, funds and travel history. A visa does not remove the officer’s discretion.
What should I do if I am refused entry?
Remain calm, ask for the written reason if available, and contact qualified assistance immediately. Do not make onward bookings or legal assumptions without checking the actual refusal record.
How long can I stay under visa exemption?
Since 15 September 2026, the revised tourist visa exemption grants 30 days to eligible citizens of 60 countries and 15 days to eligible citizens of two countries. Your passport and date of entry determine which rule applies. Check the Thai MFA announcement and your admitted-until date. Travellers admitted before 15 September keep the date already granted. See our updated visa-exemption guide.
Is visa exemption the same as a tourist visa?
No. Visa exemption permits eligible travellers to seek entry without obtaining a visa first, while a tourist visa is issued before travel. Conditions and extension options can differ.
Can I extend a tourist visa in Thailand?
A tourist stay may often be extended through the appropriate visa extension process, subject to current rules, documents, fees and immigration approval. Contact us early so there is time to prepare.
Can I make several visa-exempt entries in one year?
There may be practical or formal limits depending on the entry route and current policy. Even where no simple annual number answers the question, repeated stays can receive closer scrutiny.
Is a border run guaranteed to produce a new stay?
No. Departure does not guarantee re-entry, and border policies can change. Assess your travel history and eligibility before making the trip.
Can I apply for a Thai e-visa while I am physically in Thailand?
E-visa eligibility is tied to the responsible embassy or consulate and your location. Do not assume an online application can be made from inside Thailand; verify the mission’s rules.
How long does an e-visa application take?
Processing varies by embassy, season and whether additional documents are requested. Apply with a sensible buffer and avoid non-refundable travel commitments until a decision is issued.
Can you advise on entry options for a short visit?
Yes. The appropriate entry route depends on nationality, purpose of travel, expected length of stay, and current government rules.
How much passport validity do I need to travel?
Six months’ passport validity is commonly required or recommended, but the exact requirement can depend on your destination, nationality, airline, and travel route. Contact us or confirm with the relevant authority before travelling.
Can an airline refuse boarding even if I expect to enter Thailand?
Yes. Airlines check travel documents and may require evidence such as an onward journey or an appropriate visa. Confirm requirements before departure.
Do I need proof of onward travel?
If you travel to Thailand without obtaining a visa in advance, your airline or Thai immigration may ask for proof of onward travel. Check the current requirements before departure, and contact us if you need advice about your entry arrangements.
Can I extend a short stay in Thailand?
Some entry permissions can be extended, but eligibility and the length granted depend on the entry type and current immigration policy.
When should I apply for an extension?
Apply with enough time to correct missing documents or respond to office requirements. Do not wait until the final day unless an emergency makes that unavoidable.
Can you help if my entry stamp appears incorrect?
Yes. Contact us immediately and send clear copies of your passport identity page, visa if applicable, boarding pass, and entry stamp so we can review the situation.
Does a visa guarantee entry into Thailand?
No. A visa allows you to seek entry, while the final admission decision and permitted stay are determined by the immigration authorities.
Can I work while visiting Thailand?
You should not work unless you hold the appropriate immigration status and valid authorisation to perform that work. A pending application or visitor status does not normally authorize employment. Contact us before starting any work.
Can you assist a visiting family group?
Yes. We can assess and assist with visa arrangements for the whole family. Each family member’s nationality, age, relationship, and circumstances will be reviewed individually.
What changed to visa exemption on 15 September 2026?
Checked 15 September 2026: Thailand ended its 60-day tourist visa-exemption scheme. The new exemption grants 30 days to eligible citizens of 60 countries and 15 days to eligible citizens of two countries. Three countries use a revised visa-on-arrival scheme. Check your passport’s eligibility in the Thai MFA announcement and read our current guide.
Does the September 2026 change shorten a stay already granted?
No. Travellers who entered before 15 September 2026 retain the admitted-until date already granted, according to the Thai MFA. Check the date on your immigration record.
Does a child need a TDAC too?
Non-Thai children also need arrival information submitted. A parent or guardian can complete it for them. Follow the official TDAC instructions and see our TDAC guide.
Can I use Suvarnabhumi’s Auto Gates instead of a staffed counter?
As of 19 September 2026, limited live use is credibly reported for eligible foreign travellers entering visa-free. That does not guarantee that every passport on the announced list or every visa category can use a gate. US passports are not on the announced foreign-arrival list; Chinese, Indian and Russian passports are also absent, so holders should use a staffed arrival counter unless Immigration directs them otherwise. Current traveller reports also direct DTV, Non-O, Non-B and tourist-visa holders to staffed counters, while the official rollout remains phased. Departure eligibility is broader. Follow Immigration staff’s directions and verify your entry record. See our Auto Gate update and the official passenger-service update.
DTV, LTR and Thailand Privilege
Who is the Destination Thailand Visa (DTV) intended for?
The DTV covers qualifying remote workers and freelancers, approved activity-based applicants, and eligible spouses and children under 20. Evidence depends on the category and issuing mission. See our DTV guide and official embassy requirements.
Does a five-year DTV allow five years of continuous residence?
No. Five years is the visa’s validity, not one uninterrupted stay. The normal allowance is up to 180 days per entry, with one further extension of up to 180 days subject to approval. See the official DTV rules.
Does holding a DTV allow me to take a job with a Thai employer?
Do not treat a DTV as blanket permission to work for a Thai employer. The activity, employer and applicable work-authorisation rules need separate assessment. Tell us exactly what work you intend to do before relying on a particular visa. See our DTV guidance.
Is the LTR visa suitable for every retiree or remote worker?
No. The Long-Term Resident (LTR) programme has specific eligibility categories and requires qualification endorsement. Being retired or working remotely is not sufficient by itself. Check the BOI application process and request a comparison with other suitable options.
Does Thailand Privilege membership include permission to work?
No. Membership provides benefits and a long-stay visa arrangement, not general employment permission. Compare current packages, total costs and your intended activities before joining. See our Thailand Privilege guide and the programme’s explanation of visa limitations.
Retirement and long stays
What are the main ways to meet retirement financial requirements?
Common routes involve qualifying Thai-bank funds, qualifying income, or an accepted combination, but the applicable method and evidence depend on the visa or extension type. Obtain a case-specific checklist.
How long must retirement funds be in a Thai bank before applying?
Seasoning periods and post-approval balance rules can apply. The exact timeline depends on the application type and current immigration practice, so plan months ahead.
Can a fixed-deposit account be used for retirement evidence?
It may be accepted if the funds are accessible and the account meets local requirements, but practice differs. Confirm before relying on it.
Can exchange-rate changes affect a foreign-currency retirement account?
Yes. If eligibility is measured in Thai baht, currency movements can reduce the equivalent balance. Maintain a safety margin and confirm how the office values the account.
Can you assess whether I qualify for a retirement-based option?
Yes. We can assess your age, finances, current immigration status, nationality, and intended stay to identify suitable retirement visa options.
What financial evidence is normally relevant to retirement applications?
The required bank balance, income evidence and holding periods depend on the retirement route. Have us check your eligibility and documents before transferring funds. Our retirement visa guide explains the main options; a bank balance alone does not establish eligibility.
Does money need to remain in a Thai bank account?
That depends on the retirement route and financial method used. Minimum balances and holding periods may apply before and after an application. Contact us before withdrawing or transferring funds.
Can overseas income be used?
Overseas income may be relevant in some cases, but the accepted method and evidence depend on the application route. Funds may need to be transferred into a Thai bank account and supported by suitable records. Contact us to review your options.
Can a retirement permission be renewed each year?
Many retirement-based stays require periodic extension or renewal. Continued eligibility and timely supporting documents are important.
Can my spouse be included in my retirement application?
Inclusion is not automatic. A spouse may need a separate status or may qualify through a related route, depending on current rules and personal circumstances.
Do I need health insurance for a long-stay visa?
Some long-stay categories require qualifying insurance while others may not. The policy terms and evidence must match the chosen route.
Can I leave Thailand while holding a retirement extension?
Often yes, but a re-entry permit may be required to preserve the permission to stay. Check before every departure.
Do retirement extensions include 90-day reporting?
Long-term permission to stay does not necessarily remove reporting duties. We can explain the obligations attached to your status.
When should I start preparing for retirement renewal?
Start well before expiry so bank records, letters, insurance, address evidence, and other time-sensitive documents can be arranged correctly.
Can I open the Thai bank account needed for a retirement application?
Bank account opening depends on the bank, branch, immigration status, and supporting documents. We can explain common requirements and available options.
Does the retirement account need to be in my name only?
Some retirement routes require qualifying funds in an eligible account held in the applicant’s name. Contact us before choosing or funding an account.
Can I use a joint account for retirement financial evidence?
A joint account may not satisfy the full requirement or may be assessed differently. Contact us before relying on joint funds.
What type of Thai bank account is normally used?
A Thai savings account is commonly used for immigration financial evidence. The account ownership, bank and documentation must meet the requirements of the particular application.
When should I request the bank letter for my application?
Bank letters are time-sensitive and should be requested according to the application schedule. We can assist with eligible bank-account arrangements and the necessary supporting documentation.
Can I spend money from the retirement account after approval?
Yes, but strict minimum-balance and holding-period rules may continue after approval. Contact us before withdrawing or transferring funds so we can clarify the rules for your route.
Can health problems prevent a retirement application?
Medical-certificate and insurance requirements differ between visa routes. Check the rules for the exact category and any policy eligibility conditions before applying. We can help identify the administrative requirements for your circumstances.
Can I change from another status to a retirement route?
Often possible, but the method depends on your current status, remaining stay, nationality, finances, and whether an in-country change is permitted.
Can I travel frequently while holding retirement status?
Yes, provided you protect the permission to stay with any required re-entry authorisation and continue meeting reporting and renewal obligations.
What happens to retirement status if I leave without re-entry permission?
Without a re-entry permit, the existing permission may be lost on departure. Contact us with your passport and travel details so we can assess the next available route.
Are Non-Immigrant O and O-A retirement routes identical?
No. Application location, supporting evidence and insurance requirements can differ. A visa obtained abroad and an extension granted inside Thailand are also different processes. Compare the route appropriate to your nationality, location and current status using our retirement guide and a personal assessment.
Does an O-X visa automatically grant an uninterrupted ten-year stay?
No. O-X is structured as an initial five-year period with a possible further five years. Applicants must be at least 50, hold an eligible nationality and meet financial, insurance and other conditions. See our O-X guide and official O-X requirements.
Marriage, children and family
Why is a marriage extension sometimes granted under consideration first?
Immigration may conduct additional checks before final approval. Follow the return date on the stamp and keep your contact details current.
Can I use a combination of income and savings for a marriage extension?
Do not assume the retirement combination method applies. Marriage-based financial methods can be more restrictive and should be checked for the specific office.
Can you help with a visa or extension based on marriage to a Thai citizen?
Yes. We can review the relationship documents, finances, residence evidence, current status, and other requirements for Thai marriage visa assistance.
What relationship documents may be needed?
For marriage, dependant, or family-based applications, bring official evidence such as a marriage certificate, birth certificate, custody documents, and relevant identity records. Foreign documents may require translation or legalisation.
Can an unmarried partner qualify as a dependant?
Eligibility varies by visa category and the legal recognition of the relationship. We will assess the exact route rather than assume dependant status.
Can children be included in a family application?
Children may qualify through a dependant or family route, but age, relationship evidence, custody, and current status can affect the process.
Can you help parents who support a Thai child?
Yes. We can assess the parent-child relationship, parental status, financial evidence, current immigration status, and supporting documents to identify an appropriate route.
Do both spouses need to attend immigration?
Both spouses are commonly required to attend for marriage-based applications, although procedures can vary by service and immigration office. We will confirm the attendance requirements for your case.
Will immigration visit our home?
A home visit or other checks may form part of a marriage- or family-based application. Immigration may ask to verify that your relationship and declared address are genuine. We can explain the evidence requested for your case.
Can I apply after getting married in Thailand?
Yes, provided you meet the requirements for the intended application. Marriage does not automatically change your immigration status, so contact us to plan the correct process and timing.
Can a foreign marriage certificate be used in Thailand?
Yes, but a foreign marriage certificate generally needs to complete the required authentication, Thai translation, legalisation, and family-status registration procedures before it can be used for certain Thai applications. This may include obtaining a Khor Ror 22 record from a Thai district office. The exact process depends on where the marriage was registered, so contact us before arranging the documents.
What happens if my family circumstances change?
Marriage, separation, divorce, custody changes, or the loss of a sponsor may affect your immigration status and could require a different visa route. Contact us immediately for advice rather than waiting until your current permission expires.
Do we need photographs for a marriage-based application?
Photographs of the couple, residence, and family life may be requested. We will explain the current format and quantity expected for your application.
What address evidence is needed for a marriage application?
Evidence may include a lease, house registration records, maps, photographs, and address notifications. Requirements vary by office and case.
Can a recently registered marriage support an application?
Potentially, yes. The marriage must be legally valid and supported by the required records, relationship evidence, finances, and immigration documents.
Do we need witnesses for a family-based immigration process?
Some procedures or local offices may request witnesses or additional verification. We will advise you if this applies to your case.
Can adopted children qualify for family status?
Possibly. Valid adoption, custody, identity, and relationship documents will be important, and foreign records may need authentication or translation.
What documents are needed when parents are separated?
Custody orders, consent letters, birth records, and identity documents may be required. Contact us before travelling or applying with a child.
Can a child’s surname difference cause an application problem?
It can lead to questions, but suitable birth, custody, marriage, name-change, or explanatory documents may establish the relationship.
Can a dependant remain after the main applicant’s status ends?
Dependant status is often linked to the main applicant’s immigration permission. Every case is different, so contact us immediately if the principal status ends or changes.
Can adult children qualify as dependants?
Adult children aged 20 or older generally do not qualify as dependants under many Thai immigration routes, although the applicable category and circumstances must be checked. Contact us for an assessment.
Can you help prepare a family application for several dependants?
Yes. We can help coordinate the shared and individual documents required for an eligible family application involving several dependants.
Can I request a 60-day extension to visit my Thai spouse or child?
A family-visit extension may be available for an eligible applicant visiting a Thai spouse or child. Your current entry status, relationship evidence and local Immigration checklist matter; approval is not automatic. See our 60-day family-visit extension guide and have your circumstances checked.
Work, business and SMART Visa
What is the Thai e-work permit system?
It is the electronic channel being used for aspects of work-permit processing. Procedures and rollout can change, so employers should confirm the current filing route.
Can I teach online while holding a DTV?
A DTV does not automatically settle Thai work-law questions. The client, employer, place of work and activity all matter; obtain specific advice.
Can you assist with business and employment visa matters?
Yes. We can review the proposed role, employer or company documents, current status, and the permissions likely to be required.
Is a business visa the same as a work permit?
No. Immigration status and authorisation to work are related but distinct. A person may need both before carrying out employment.
Can I start working while my documents are being processed?
No. A pending visa or work-permit application does not normally authorize you to begin working. Wait until all required permissions have been granted and confirmed.
What documents does an employer usually provide?
The required company records depend on the application and business. They may include registration, tax, employment, financial, and authorized-signatory documents.
Can a newly formed company sponsor a foreign employee?
Possibly, but eligibility depends on the company structure, capitalization, staffing, compliance records, and the specific role.
Can you help a company prepare employee applications?
Yes. We can coordinate the personal and company document lists and help organize applications for eligible foreign staff.
Does changing employers affect my status?
It can affect immigration permission, work authorisation, or both. Plan the transition before ending one role or beginning another.
Can a company director work without a work permit?
A title or shareholding does not automatically authorize work. The actual activities and current law must be considered.
Can remote workers work from Thailand?
The answer depends on immigration status, the nature of the work, where the employer or clients are located, and current Thai rules. Obtain case-specific advice.
What should I do when employment ends?
Contact us immediately. The end of employment can affect both your work authorisation and immigration status, and short cancellation or change-of-status deadlines may apply.
Can an employer begin preparing documents before I arrive?
Yes. An employer can often begin organizing company and employment records, but the correct sequence depends on the visa and work-authorisation route.
Does my job title need to match my work authorisation?
Your authorized role and actual duties should be consistent with the permissions granted. Changes may require notification or approval.
Can I work for more than one employer?
This may be possible in limited circumstances, but each employer and activity must be covered by the appropriate work authorisation. Contact us before beginning additional employment.
Can I change my job position with the same employer?
A change of position or duties may require an amendment to your work permit and related records. Contact us before the new role begins.
Does unpaid work require authorisation?
Unpaid, volunteer, or informal activity can still be treated as work depending on what you do. Obtain advice before starting.
Can I attend business meetings as a visitor?
Permitted activities depend on the immigration status and nature of the meetings. Meetings are different from performing operational work, so clarify the planned activities.
Can a foreign shareholder work in the company?
Share ownership alone does not authorize work. The individual’s activities, immigration status, and work authorisation must be assessed separately.
What company records should be kept current for foreign staff applications?
Registration, shareholder, employment, tax, social-security, financial, and premises records may be relevant. The required set depends on the application.
Can you coordinate visa and work-permit renewal dates?
Yes. We can help identify connected deadlines and organize the personal and employer documents needed for eligible renewals.
What if my employer cannot provide a required company document?
Tell us immediately. We can assess whether the document can be updated, replaced, explained, or whether the proposed application route is not currently viable.
Is forming a Thai company enough to qualify for a SMART Visa?
No. The SMART startup route requires BOI endorsement and a business meeting the programme’s criteria. Company incorporation alone does not qualify you. Check our SMART Visa guide and the current BOI startup criteria before committing to a plan.
Study, education visas and ED Plus
Can you assist with education-related visa enquiries?
Yes. We can review the course, school, admission documents, current immigration status, and proposed study period and explain the appropriate application process.
Does enrolling in a course automatically provide a visa?
No. Enrollment and immigration approval are separate matters. Both the student and education provider must satisfy the applicable requirements.
Can I change schools while staying in Thailand?
Yes, but changing schools commonly requires cancellation or amendment of the existing status and a new application supported by the new school. Contact us before leaving your current school.
Can parents stay with a child studying in Thailand?
A parent or legal guardian may qualify through a route connected with our dependant visa guidance when the child holds suitable education-based status through an eligible institution. Separate financial and supporting-document requirements apply, so contact us for an assessment.
Can a student work in Thailand?
An education visa does not by itself authorize employment. Do not begin working unless you have the appropriate immigration status and work authorisation.
What documents will the school need to provide?
The required school documents depend on the institution, course, and application route. Contact us with the school’s details so we can provide an appropriate checklist.
How early should I begin a student application?
Begin as early as possible to allow time for enrollment, school documentation, appointments, and any required visa process. Contact us before your current permission to stay approaches expiry.
Can short courses support a long-term stay?
Not every course or provider supports an education-based immigration route. Confirm recognition and current requirements before paying non-refundable fees.
What happens if I stop attending classes?
Your school may report changes in enrollment or attendance, and the basis for your education-related stay could be cancelled. This may create immigration consequences or penalties. Contact us immediately if your studies end or change.
Can dependants accompany a student?
Some categories may provide options for eligible family members, but each dependant normally needs separate documentation and approval.
How do I know whether a school can support an education visa?
Ask the institution for its approval details and immigration-support process before paying. We can review the proposed school and documents.
Does the length of the course affect the visa process?
Yes. Course type, duration, schedule, provider, and immigration policy can affect eligibility and the permission available.
Will immigration check student attendance?
Sometimes. Schools and immigration authorities may review attendance and genuine study, so students should comply with course requirements.
Can online-only study support an education visa?
Not every online or remote course qualifies. Confirm the current requirements and the institution’s eligibility before enrolling.
Can I travel abroad during my course?
Travel may be possible, but it is not always recommended because it can affect attendance, re-entry permission, extensions or pending applications. Contact us before booking travel.
What happens when my course finishes?
Your education-based permission may be affected when the course ends. Every case is different, so contact us before completion to plan departure or another eligible immigration route.
Can I extend my stay if the course continues?
Possibly, with current school documentation and continued eligibility. Begin preparation early because approval is not automatic.
Can I study at more than one institution?
This may be possible, but your immigration status is normally supported by a particular institution or course. Contact us before enrolling elsewhere.
Do language-school students need to take tests?
Yes, language schools may require tests or other evidence of study progress, and attendance or progress may be relevant to immigration compliance.
Can you communicate with the school about missing visa documents?
Yes. As part of our education visa assistance, we can communicate with the school to identify and help obtain missing visa-support documents.
Can a language-school student use ED Plus?
ED Plus is intended for students pursuing a bachelor’s degree or higher in Thailand. It is not the language-school ED route. See our ED Plus guide and official ED and ED Plus requirements.
Can an ED Plus graduate stay to look for work?
Eligible graduates can apply for a further year to seek work or undertake other permitted activities. This is not automatic employment authorisation. A job offer requires the appropriate status and work arrangements. Consult our ED Plus guide and the official student-visa guidance.
90-day reporting, TM30 and re-entry
Can I get a re-entry permit at a land border?
Availability varies by checkpoint. Confirm directly before travelling and do not assume every border provides the service.
How do I move immigration stamps to a new passport?
Take both passports and the supporting embassy or passport letter, if issued, to the responsible immigration office. Requirements vary by passport replacement circumstances.
Should I keep copies of my passport and immigration stamps?
Yes. Keep secure copies of the identity page, current permission, visa, extension, re-entry permit and recent entry stamp. They are useful if the passport is lost or records must be reconstructed.
What is 90-day reporting?
It is a periodic address-reporting requirement that may apply to certain foreign nationals staying in Thailand for an extended period. It is separate from extending permission to stay.
Does leaving Thailand reset the 90-day reporting date?
Travel can affect the reporting cycle, but the calculation should be checked from the latest entry and relevant record rather than assumed.
What is a re-entry permit?
A re-entry permit can preserve an existing permission to stay when travelling abroad. Without the required permit, the existing permission may be lost on departure.
Do I need a single or multiple re-entry permit?
A single permit covers one qualifying departure and return, while a multiple permit is designed for repeated travel during its validity. The better choice depends on travel plans.
Can I obtain a re-entry permit at the airport?
Airport service may be available in some circumstances, but hours, location, time, and document needs should be checked. Arranging it earlier can reduce travel-day risk.
What if I forgot to get a re-entry permit?
Contact us with your departure and return details and copies of the relevant passport pages. The effect depends on what status you held and what happened at entry.
Does a new passport affect my Thai visa records?
Relevant stamps or permissions may need to be transferred or presented with the old passport. Keep both passports and check the correct procedure.
Can I travel while an extension is under consideration?
Travel may affect a pending process or the permission evidenced by an under-consideration stamp. Obtain advice and any necessary authorisation before leaving.
How do I update my address after moving?
The correct notification process depends on your status, accommodation, and timing. Keep evidence of the new address and contact us promptly.
Are reporting deadlines the same as visa expiry dates?
Normally not. Visa validity, permission to stay, extension deadlines, 90-day reporting, address notifications, and work authorisation can have different dates. Contact us if you are uncertain about any deadline.
What should I do if an online 90-day report remains pending?
Keep the submission evidence and monitor the result, but do not let the legal window expire without a fallback plan. Contact the office if necessary.
What if I cannot reset my online reporting password?
Use the official password-recovery process and verify that your email matches the immigration record. If the deadline is close, prepare an alternative filing method.
Can I change the email address used for online 90-day reporting?
The system may require a new registration or updated record. Allow time for the change and do not assume an old pending account will transfer automatically.
What happens if I report late?
A fine or other consequences may apply. File as soon as possible and obtain a receipt; do not wait for the next reporting cycle.
Can I obtain a residence certificate before my first 90-day report?
Possibly, but offices differ on the address records they require. Bring passport, address and TM30 evidence and check local procedure in advance.
What is a TM30 notification?
TM30 is the notification of the accommodation where a foreign national stays in Thailand. Under Section 38, the responsible householder, owner, landlord, property possessor or hotel manager normally reports the address to Immigration within 24 hours from the person taking up residence. Read our complete TM30 guide.
Who is responsible for filing a TM30?
The duty normally rests with the householder, property owner, landlord, person possessing the residence or hotel manager. A foreign owner or lawful possessor may sometimes report directly. Although the accommodation side normally files, the foreign resident should keep evidence because a missing record can affect later Immigration applications.
Does completing the TDAC replace the TM30?
No. The Thailand Digital Arrival Card is an arrival record completed by the traveller. TM30 is a separate accommodation notification for the address where the traveller stays. Neither TDAC nor a 90-day report replaces TM30.
Do I need a new TM30 after returning from overseas?
Not always. A 2020 Royal Thai Police regulation says repeat reporting is not required for a qualifying return to the same continuing accommodation and expressly includes specified multiple-entry visa and re-entry-permit situations. A different address, ended accommodation period or changed circumstances may require a fresh report. Check the record before an important application.
What if my landlord has not completed the address notification?
Contact us for assistance with the TM30 documentation and to determine the appropriate next step with your landlord or accommodation provider.
How can I prove my address in Thailand?
Address evidence can be provided in several ways, depending on the service and local office. Contact us with your accommodation details for an appropriate checklist.
What should I do if my 90-day report receipt is lost?
Contact us with your passport and any available details of the last report. Our immigration assistance can help identify the next reporting step and supporting evidence.
Can another person complete my 90-day report?
This may be possible through an authorized representative or another accepted method, depending on current procedures. Contact us before the deadline.
Can I report my address online?
TM30 accommodation notifications can be filed through the official Thai Immigration TM30 system by a registered responsible person. The 90-day report uses a separate service. Keep the exported confirmation or other evidence and check that the submitted address and passport details are correct.
What if the online reporting system rejects my submission?
Do not ignore the deadline. Save the rejection or error details and contact us promptly to consider another accepted reporting method.
Does a 90-day report extend my permission to stay?
No. Address reporting and permission to stay are separate matters. Completing a report does not extend a visa or immigration deadline.
Passports and travel planning
What should I check in my passport before travelling?
Check your passport’s expiry date, condition, available pages and personal details. Confirm the validity required by your destination, visa route, transit countries and airline before booking. Make sure your booking details match the passport you will use.
Can a damaged passport cause travel problems?
Yes. A damaged passport can cause difficulties with airlines or immigration authorities. Contact your passport authority or embassy before travelling if the damage may affect identification or security features.
What should I do if my passport expires during a long stay?
Begin the renewal process early through your embassy or consulate. After receiving a new passport, Thai immigration records or stamps may need attention.
Can I travel while my passport renewal is pending?
Travel may not be possible without a valid travel document. Ask your embassy about available documents and contact us about the effect on your Thai immigration status.
Do children need their own passports and immigration permission?
Yes. Children generally require their own valid passports and appropriate immigration permission. Contact us for family-specific requirements.
Can a one-way ticket cause difficulty at check-in?
Yes. An airline or immigration officer may request proof of onward travel, particularly when travelling as a tourist or under visa exemption. Confirm the current requirements before departure.
What should I keep after entering Thailand?
Keep your passport, boarding information, entry record, visa documents, accommodation details, and copies of any immigration forms or receipts.
Can a previous overstay affect a future entry?
It may. The effect depends on the circumstances, duration, record, and any official action taken. Contact us before making new travel plans.
Should I check my permitted-stay date after every entry?
Yes. Review the stamp or electronic entry record immediately. The permitted-stay date, not your flight booking, determines when action may be required.
Can you review my travel plan before I leave Thailand?
Yes. We can review how departure and return may affect an extension, re-entry permit, pending application, or reporting schedule.
Can Next Step assist with British or US passport applications in Thailand?
We provide preparation and coordination assistance for eligible British and US passport cases. The relevant government authority issues the passport and controls the requirements and timing. See our UK and US passport services and allow time for any Thai immigration-record transfer afterwards.
Documents, translations and certification
Why do immigration requirements differ between offices?
National rules are applied through local procedures, and offices may request different forms or supporting evidence. Use a checklist for the exact office and date.
What documents should I bring to a consultation?
Please bring your passport, current visa or entry stamp, recent immigration documents, and any paperwork connected with your enquiry. Depending on the service, additional financial, address, family, employment, or company documents may be needed.
Can you check my documents before submission?
Yes. We can review the documents relevant to the service, explain any gaps, and help you prepare an organized application package.
Do documents need to be translated or certified?
Some applications require Thai or English translations, certified copies, legalisation, or other formalities. We will explain what applies after reviewing the documents and the intended application.
Can you arrange translations?
Yes. Our legal and document services can advise on translation requirements and help arrange suitable translation services where available.
Must translations be completed by a certified translator?
Official applications may require translations prepared or certified in a specific manner. Requirements vary by authority and document, so contact us before arranging the translation.
What is document legalisation?
Legalization is the process of authenticating a document or signature for official use. It may involve your country’s authorities, an embassy, and Thailand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Contact us for the process applicable to your document.
Are photocopies enough for an application?
Applications commonly require original documents for inspection together with signed copies. Exact requirements vary, so bring both the originals and clear copies unless advised otherwise.
Can I submit digital bank statements?
Digital statements may be accepted in some cases, while other applications require an original bank book, official bank statement, or bank letter. Contact us for the requirements of your application.
How recent must my documents be?
Different documents have different validity periods. Bank letters, medical certificates, residence evidence, photographs, and official records may need to be recently issued. Contact us for a case-specific checklist.
What if names are spelled differently across my documents?
Differences in names or spelling can delay an application. Contact us so we can determine whether you need a correction, translation note, affidavit, or other supporting evidence.
Can you help replace a missing document?
Yes. Contact us with the name of the missing document, its issuing country or authority, and the application for which it is needed. We can help identify the appropriate replacement process.
Should I sign every copy of my passport?
Signed passport copies are commonly required. Sign copies in the manner requested for the specific application, but do not write on or alter the original passport.
How should I send documents for review?
Use clear, complete scans or photographs with all corners visible. Do not obscure stamps, numbers, dates, or reverse-side information that may be relevant.
Bank accounts and financial evidence
Does my bank book need to be updated on the application day?
Yes, some applications require the bank book to be updated on or close to the submission date. We can assist with the bank documentation and timing requirements.
What should a Thai bank letter show?
Thai banks use an established format for immigration letters, normally confirming the account holder’s details, account information and balance. The exact wording depends on the application.
Can funds be transferred from another person’s account?
Normally, funds can be transferred from another account, but the money may need to remain in the applicant’s qualifying account for a required period and its source may need to be explained. Contact us before transferring funds.
Do large recent deposits cause questions?
Sometimes. A recent large deposit may prompt questions about its source and timing, although this is not automatic. Keep clear supporting and transfer records.
Can cryptocurrency holdings be used as financial evidence?
Do not assume cryptocurrency can replace a prescribed Thai bank balance or accepted income evidence. Financial requirements are specific to the immigration route. Have the permitted evidence checked before selling, transferring or relying on assets.
Can investment accounts satisfy a financial requirement?
Some immigration routes consider investments, but an investment account does not automatically replace a required Thai bank deposit. The type, ownership, value and evidence must meet the rules of your chosen route.
Should foreign bank documents be translated?
They may require translation, certification, or legalisation depending on language, issuing country, and intended application.
What if my Thai bank account name differs from my passport?
Ask the bank to correct or explain the discrepancy before submission. Name differences can delay verification.
Can I close the supporting bank account after approval?
Do not close or materially change an account used for an ongoing financial condition without checking post-approval balance and evidence requirements.
Can you review my bank records before I transfer funds?
Yes. Contact us before moving money so we can review the intended route, timing, account ownership, and supporting evidence.
Can Next Step Hua Hin help me open a Thai bank account?
Yes. Our bank account opening assistance includes assessing your circumstances and helping prepare suitable documents. Acceptance remains the bank’s decision; requirements vary by bank, branch and immigration status.
Can I open a Thai bank account with a tourist visa or visa exemption?
It has become more difficult because banks apply strict identity-verification, fraud-prevention and compliance requirements. Acceptance varies between banks, branches and applicants. We can assess requests from customers regardless of visa type, although some visa types or circumstances may not qualify and approval is always the bank’s decision.
What documents may be required to open a Thai bank account?
Requirements vary, but commonly requested items include your passport, current visa or permission to stay, Thai address evidence, a Thai telephone number and supporting immigration or residence documents. Contact us for a personalised checklist.
Can a Thai bank account be used for QR-code payments?
A suitable account arranged through an eligible Thai bank account application may provide mobile banking and PromptPay, allowing you to make the QR-code payments widely accepted by shops, restaurants and other businesses throughout Thailand. Availability and registration remain subject to the bank’s requirements.
Do you guarantee that the bank will open an account?
No. The final decision rests with the bank and depends on its current eligibility, identity-verification and compliance requirements. We will provide a realistic assessment before accepting your case.

An overstay occurs when a person remains beyond the permitted date shown by immigration. It can lead to fines and more serious consequences, so obtain advice immediately.
Can you help if I have overstayed?
We can help you understand the situation and the practical next steps, but serious or prolonged cases may also require legal advice or direct contact with authorities.
What should I do if my passport is lost or stolen?
Report the loss as required, contact your embassy or consulate, and gather copies of the missing passport and Thai immigration records if available.
Can you help correct a mistake in an application?
Possibly. Contact us as soon as the mistake is discovered. The solution depends on whether the application is still being prepared, already filed, or decided.
What if immigration asks for additional documents?

What should I do if my circumstances change during processing?
Contact us immediately if your address, passport, employment, school, relationship, travel plans, finances, or other relevant circumstances change while an application is being processed.
When should I consult a lawyer instead of a visa agency?
For detention, criminal allegations, litigation or a dispute requiring legal representation, seek a qualified Thai lawyer promptly. Our visa agency can assist with administrative preparation and coordination, but does not replace legal representation.
Will I receive proof that my application was submitted?
Where applicable, you should receive a receipt for the application fee and other official fees or a record showing that the application was submitted. Keep all receipts safely.
What does an under-consideration stamp mean?
It means immigration is still considering the application. This is a normal stage for certain visa or extension types. Follow the date and instructions shown on the stamp.
Can immigration keep my passport during processing?
Yes, in some cases an authority may temporarily retain the passport or original documents. Keep any receipt or collection instructions provided.
How will I know whether additional information is required?
The authority or responsible organization may issue a written request, contact the applicant, or communicate through the representative handling the matter.
Can processing take longer than the initial estimate?
Yes. Although many cases follow the expected timeframe, processing can take longer because each case, authority workload and document review are different.
Should I book travel before receiving a decision?
Avoid non-refundable travel commitments until you understand the decision timetable and any attendance requirements. If an application is pending, check how departure would affect it and whether re-entry permission is required before making travel plans.
Can someone collect documents on my behalf?

What if an approved document contains an error?
