THIM App: Everything You Can Do With Thailand’s New Immigration App (2026 Guide)

Thailand’s Immigration Bureau has launched THIM, a free official app that lets foreign travellers file their arrival card, verify their identity and, in the coming months, handle visa extensions and 90-day reporting from a phone. Here’s exactly what it does today, what’s coming next, and how to get it.

What is the THIM app?

THIM (Thailand Immigration) is the Immigration Bureau’s own app, published by the Royal Thai Police, built to move routine immigration tasks for foreign nationals onto a phone. It launched nationally on 1 August 2026 after a pilot phase earlier in the year, and has already passed 600,000 downloads and around 580,000 active users across the App Store, Google Play and Huawei AppGallery.

The stated goal, according to Immigration Bureau officials, is to make “entry into and stays in Thailand more convenient, faster, safer, and more seamless” while easing queues at airports and land borders.

• File your Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) — the app says it can complete this in under three minutes, and syncs straight to Immigration Bureau systems, so there’s no separate QR code to show at the gate.
• Submit a group or family in one go — up to ten travellers can be filed together in a single session, useful for families or tour groups.
• Scan your passport automatically — AI-based OCR reads your passport photo page so you don’t have to type your details in by hand.
• Verify your identity digitally (e-KYC) — the app cross-checks your face and passport data using biometric facial recognition and liveness detection, and NFC passport chip reading on supported devices.
• Reuse your profile on repeat visits — frequent visitors only need to update flight numbers and accommodation details next time, rather than re-entering everything.
• Browse Explore Thailand travel perks — discount coupons and privileges from partners including The Mall Group, Grab and Bangkok Dusit Medical Services (BDMS).

What’s coming next (Phase 2, from around October 2026)

The Immigration Bureau has said these features are planned but not yet live for every user — treat them as “coming soon” rather than available today:

• Online 90-day address reporting filed directly in the app
• Visa extension applications and electronic document submission
• Certificates of residence/stay
• Immigration office queue booking, to cut down waiting times
• Visa-on-arrival processing at authorised checkpoints
• A wider language selection (English, Russian, Japanese and Chinese are supported at launch, with more promised)

Is THIM mandatory?

No. The TDAC itself is still required for every foreign arrival, but filing it through THIM is optional — you can still complete it through the official TDAC website or on arrival. THIM is simply a faster, app-based way to do the same filing, plus some extra services layered on top.

Is it safe to use?

The Immigration Bureau says THIM runs on Amazon Web Services infrastructure with encryption, separated storage of biometric data, access controls and activity logging, and that it complies with Thailand’s Personal Data Protection Act B.E. 2562 (2019). As with any app that handles passport and biometric data, it’s sensible to download it only from the official store links below, keep the app updated, and avoid using it over unsecured public Wi-Fi where possible.
